Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know: 1). The relationship between emotional intelligence and altruistic behavior in adolescents 2). Level of altruistic behavior in adolescents 3). Level of emotional intelligence in adolescents 4). Knowing the effective contribution of emotional intelligence to altruistic behavior in adolescents. The hypothesis is that there is a positive correlation between emotional intelligence and altruist behavior. Subjects used in this research were male and female students aged 16-18 years at high school Negeri 1 Polanharjo. The sampling technique used in this research is cluster random sampling, the sampling technique based on sample units is not composed of individuals but from individual groups or clusters of 62 people. A method of this study used a quantitative approach with a measuring instrument psychological scale. A measuring instrument used scale altruist behavior and scale of emotion intelligence.Data analyzed using correlation technique product moment of pearson. Based on the analysis of data obtained by the correlation coefficient (r) of 0,550 with sig = 0.000 <(0.01) means there is a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and altruist behavior. Emotional intelligence variables have the empirical mean (RE) of 96.00 and the mean hypothetical (RH) of 80, which means the emotional intelligence research subjects classified average. Variable altruist behavior has the empirical mean (RE) of 101.42. The mean hypothetical (RH) altruist behavior scale of 80, which means altruistic behavior of the subject is high. Effective contribution of emotional intelligence to the variable altruist behavior amounted to 30.25%. This means there are 60.75% other factors affecting the altruistic behavior outside variables emotional intelligence
