Abstract

Learning in schools has an important role for students. One of the learning is where students do activity by making a creative note in the form of mind mapping. This study aims to determine the effect of mind mapping learning method on biology learning on the learning outcomes and the activity of students of class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017. This research use experiment method by using post test. The study population are all students of class VIII. Samples of data were taken by purposive sampling. Class VIII A applies mind mapping learning, then VIII E apply conventional learning. The data analysis used is Independent Sample T-Test. The result of this research are the result of student learning and activeness, student learning result is mind mapping learning gets average value 79,30 and on conventional learning get the average value 54,59. The student's activity is assessed from the affective aspect that the mind mapping class has an average of 17.07 and the conventional class has an average of 14.9. After the prerequisite test is fulfilled, the hypothesis test is hypothesized that learning result significance (0,000) <significance level (0.05), then the decision of null hypothesis Ho is rejected. Student activation hypothesis got result of significance value (0,006) <constant significance (0,05). Thus, it can be concluded that mind mapping learning affect the learning outcomes and the activity of students of class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta academic year 2016/2017.
