Abstract

This research aims at observing the implementation of the teaching of English at the first year of MTsN Model Sumberlawang, and the strengths and weaknesses in implementing the method. The research was conducted at MTsN Model Sumberlawang, at Jl. Raya Solo - Purwodadi Km. 32 Sumberlawang Sragen. Type of research that is used by the writer is descriptive qualitative research. In this research, the data are derived from event, informant, and document. There are three methods of collecting data namely: observation, interview, and document analysis. It is found from the research that the method of teaching English, type and procedures of teaching-learning process are consistent with Communicative Language Teaching. While the syllabus and the role of instructional material is suitable with the Competence-based Curriculum and School-based Curriculum. The syllabus emphasizes the material on reading, grammar, and vocabulary. Based on the study on the implementation of the teaching of English at the first year of MTsN Model Sumberlawang, there are strength and weaknesses in implementing the teaching learning process. The strengths of English teaching learning process are the teacher and taught can facilitate the communication activities, interpretation, expression and elements. Although it is combined in the themes and sub-themes. While the dominant, little interaction among the students and the teacher is not so capable to teach the students affectively.
