Abstract
The design of the Coffee Experience Park in Jatiyoso, Karanganyar was motivated by the significant potential of coffee as a local commodity that has not yet been optimally integrated into educational tourism and local economic development. Jatiyoso has a hilly landscape, cool climate, high rainfall, and existing plantation activities that can support the development of coffee-based agrotourism. At the same time, tourism trends increasingly emphasize experience-based tourism, where active visitor involvement becomes an important part of destination quality. This design aims to formulate a coffee-based educational tourism area integrating production, education, recreation, commercial activities, accommodation, and conservation through a Productive Landscape approach. The method includes literature review, precedent studies, site observation and analysis, activity and space requirement analysis, and design synthesis. The result is a spatial concept consisting of production, education, tourism, commercial, service, and conservation zones connected by a sequential circulation from upstream to downstream coffee processes. The coffee plantation landscape becomes the main spatial element functioning as a productive area, educational medium, and tourism attraction. The Productive Landscape approach is implemented through the integration of coffee, shade trees, intercrops, and potential integrated farming systems. The design also responds to the hilly terrain through linear massing, stepped structures, limited cut and fill, and rainwater management. This approach is expected to increase the added value of coffee, strengthen the identity of Jatiyoso, and support sustainable agrotourism development.
