Abstract

The rapid growth of tourism in recent years has shown a shift toward more sustainable approaches, particularly in nature-based destinations. This condition is also evident in the coastal area of Central Lombok, which possesses strong natural potential in the form of beaches and coastal hills, yet faces environmental pressures due to uncontrolled tourism development. Therefore, a design approach is needed that not only accommodates tourism demands but also maintains a balance between development and environmental preservation. This project aims to formulate an eco-resort design concept that responds to the characteristics of the Central Lombok coastline through an adaptive and contextual architectural approach. The method applied includes literature study, precedent analysis, and site analysis focusing on the potentials and constraints of the selected site in Mertak Village, Pujut Sub-district. The results of these analyses are then translated into design concepts covering massing arrangement, zoning, circulation, and the relationship between built space and landscape. The design demonstrates that eco-resort principles can be implemented through controlled building density, with a building coverage ratio of 8.3% and a green coverage ratio of 91.7%, dispersed massing that follows the natural contours, and the application of passive design strategies to optimize natural lighting and ventilation. In addition, the integration between indoor and outdoor spaces through wide terraces, private pools, and large openings becomes a key element in creating a spatial experience that is closely connected to nature. In conclusion, this design is expected to offer an alternative model for tourism development that is more environmentally responsive, while also providing a comfortable, private, and sustainable spatial experience.
