Abstract

The development of coastal tourism areas holds significant potential for boosting the local economy; however, these areas also face high vulnerability to natural disasters such as high waves, coastal erosion, and tsunamis. Watukarung Beach in Pacitan Regency is a prime tourism destination with great potential for resort development, yet it requires a design approach that incorporates disaster risk mitigation. Consequently, designing a coastal resort based on risk mitigation and resilient architecture principles is crucial for creating a safe, adaptive, and sustainable environment. The design methodology encompasses field observations, data analysis, and a resilient architecture design approach. Analyses of site conditions, tourism potential, and coastal disaster risks serve as the foundation for formulating the design concept. The resilient architecture approach is implemented through strategies involving safe zoning, building massing, the provision of evacuation routes, and the selection of materials suited to the coastal environment. The design results demonstrate that integrating disaster mitigation concepts with resilient architecture principles yields a resort area that not only satisfies functional, comfort, and aesthetic requirements but also exhibits resilience against coastal disaster risks. This concept is expected to offer a solution for sustainable coastal tourism development while contributing to enhanced safety and improved quality of the built environment.
