Abstract

The limited street lighting in rural areas due to high installation and operational costs of conventional electricity has driven the need for an independent and environmentally friendly alternative energy solution. This study aims to design and build a prototype of a village street lighting system based on a Solar Power Plant (PLTS) equipped with an Internet of Things (IoT)-based energy monitoring system. The system utilizes a 50 WP solar panel as the primary energy source, a 12V/25Ah battery as energy storage, a Solar Charge Controller (SCC), and an ESP32 microcontroller as the central controller and data transmitter to the Blynk platform via Wifi. Electrical parameters such as voltage, current, and power are monitored in real-time using ACS712 sensors, while a BH1750 sensor is used to automatically control the DC LED lamp based on ambient light intensity. Calibration results show an average error of 0.40% for the voltage sensor, 2.99% for the PV current sensor, and 2.37% for the lamp current sensor, all within the 5% tolerance limit. System performance testing shows that the solar panel generated a total power of 212.06 W during the daytime period (08:00–18:00 WIB), while the lamp consumed a total of 199.37 W during nighttime operation (18:00–06:00 WIB), resulting in an energy surplus of 12.69 W with a load fulfillment efficiency of 94.02%. The IoT monitoring system based on Blynk and ESP32 successfully displayed real-time electrical parameter data and automatically controlled the lamp according to ambient lighting conditions. The results demonstrate that the designed PLTS system is capable of independently meeting the energy needs of village street lamps over a complete day-night cycle and can serve as an energy-efficient, sustainable, and remotely monitorable street lighting solution.
