Abstract

This research is motivated by the growing use of slang among teenagers, especially vocational high school students, as a result of the influence of social media, social circles, and popular culture. This phenomenon has led to the increasing use of slang in everyday communication, so it is necessary to study the forms of its use, the factors that influence it, and its impact on the use of Indonesian in the school environment. This study aims to describe (1) the forms of slang used by students of State Vocational High School 3 Klaten, (2) identify the factors that influence its use, and (3) analyze the impact of slang use in schools on students. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection techniques are observation and interviews. The data analysis technique used was the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that slang forms include abbreviations, acronyms, puns, and interjections. Secondary data included factors influencing its use, influenced by social media, peers, and the social environment. Finally, the data identified positive and negative impacts. Positive impacts include adding new vocabulary, facilitating communication between friends, and increasing self-confidence. Negative impacts include a decline in the use of standard Indonesian, the emergence of deviations from Indonesian language rules, and a diminished sense of pride in Indonesian as the national
