Abstract
This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and gratitude to body image in female adolescents in Jayapura. Participants in this study were 299 female adolescents domiciled in Jayapura with an age range of 15 to 18 years old. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The data collection technique used three types of scales, namely the self- esteem scale, gratitude and body image scale in the form of a Likert scale. The research sample was determined using a simple random sampling technique and the data analysis technique used was multiple regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that self-esteem and gratitude simultaneously have a relationship to body image with a correlation coefficient of 42.94 and a significant value of 0.000 (p <0.05) which means the hypothesis is accepted. Then partially self- esteem has a negative relationship to body image with a correlation coefficient of -0.609 with a significant value of 0.000 (p <0.05), which means the first minor hypothesis is rejected. Gratitude has a positive relationship with body image with a correlation coefficient of 0.951 with a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), which means the second minor hypothesis is accepted. In this study, it can be concluded that self-esteem has a negative relationship with body image while gratitude has a positive relationship with body image in female adolescents in Jayapura.
