Abstract

News texts play a crucial role in conveying information clearly, coherently, and understandably. This is achieved through the use of cohesion and coherence devices that link linguistic elements structurally and semantically. This study aims to de scribe the use of cohesion and coherence devices, their functions within news texts, and their potential application as Indonesian language teaching materials for Grade VIII junior high school students. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. The data consist of linguistic units containing cohesion and coherence de vices found in *Solopos* news texts from the 2025 edition. Data collection tech niques included listening, note-taking, and documentation, while data analysis in volved data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Data validity was ensured through theoretical triangulation. The research results describe the use of cohesion and coherence devices. Cohesion encompasses grammatical and lexical cohesion; grammatical cohesion includes reference, ellipsis, and conjunctions, while lexical cohesion includes repetition, synonymy, and collocation. Addition ally, coherence devices were identified, covering addition, causality, instrumental ity, conclusion, temporality, intensity, and validity. The results of this study can be utilized as teaching material for Grade VIII Junior High School Indonesian lan guage lessons on news texts in accordance with the Phase D Learning Outcomes (CP) as they help students understand the use of cohesive and coherent devices, thereby enabling them to analyze and construct news texts that are unified, coher ent, and communicative.
