Abstract

The Malioboro area in Yogyakarta is a strategic tourist destination with a very high intensity of trade and tourism activities. The increasing number of vehicles, especially on weekends and holiday seasons, creates parking problems due to limited space, which results in the emergence of illegal parking, increased congestion, and decreased pedestrian comfort and environmental quality in the area. This study aims to design a parking building that can optimally accommodate tourist vehicles and support environmental sustainability through the application of green architecture principles, the use of environmentally friendly materials, and energy efficiency. The methods used include literature studies, field observations, and precedent studies. The parking building was designed through an analysis of parking needs, the character of the area, and the application of design concepts that optimize the use of space, natural lighting and ventilation, the use of environmentally friendly materials, and the provision of green open spaces. The design of this parking building is expected to provide a solution to the congestion that often occurs in Malioboro, increase visitor comfort, and support the development of a more sustainable area by considering aspects of environmental sustainability. This ultimately can improve the quality of urban life and support a more efficient transportation system in Yogyakarta.
