The incidence of prediabetes in adolescents is increasing every year. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the frequency of junk food and sugary drinks consumption and the incidence of prediabetes in adolescents in Surakarta. This study used a quantitative observational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted with a sample of 197 high school students in Surakarta who were determined using a random sampling method. Data collected included the frequency of junk food and sugary drinks consumption and fasting blood glucose samples, which were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. Based on the study, it was found that most respondents were 16 years old (44.2%) and female (80.2%). A total of 54.8% of respondents had a frequency of junk food consumption often and 45.2% in the category of rarely. Meanwhile, the frequency of sugary drinks consumption had a percentage in the category of often as much as 50.8% and the category of rarely as much as 49.2%. The results of this study indicate no relationship between the frequency of junk food and sugary drinks consumption and the incidence of prediabetes in adolescents in Surakarta.
