Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of manganese composition on the wear resistance of gray cast iron. The research process that will be carried out includes several tests, namely testing Chemical Composition, Microstructure and Wear Resistance. Chemical composition testing was carried out using a spectrometer, then microstructure (metallography) using a SEM EDS tool, and wear resistance using an Ogoshi wear resistance test tool. The results of chemical composition testing show that the higher the addition of manganese elements, the higher the percentage of manganese in gray cast iron. The results of metallographic tests show that all materials are dominated by graphite and pearlite phases, then the higher the addition of manganese elements to the gray cast iron, the larger the graphite shape and the thicker the size. The results of wear resistance testing show that the higher the addition of manganese to gray cast iron, the more wear resistant it is.
