Abstract

Education in Indonesia needs to revise the quality of existing education. This research was conducted to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning learning model on high- level thinking abilities and activeness of class X students at SMA Negeri 3 Sragen. This type of research is a quasi experiment, using a Non Equivalent Control Group Design with the PBL method. The samples in the research were students of class X IPA C as the experimental class and X IPA H as the control class with a total of 38 students each. The instruments used include device development and instrument development. The observation results show that the application of the discussion-based problem based learning, the average value (experiment) is 86% while the implementation (control) is 58%, and the percentage value for activeness (experiment) is 95% while activeness (control) is 60%. The increase seen in the influence and understanding of students' concepts is higher compared to the control class from N-Gain for both classes, namely reaching (56%) in the high category for the experimental class and (49%) for the control class. Based on research, the application of the discussion-based problem-based learning model has been proven to improve students' high- level thinking abilities and learning activities.
