Abstract

The hostel is a traditional Islamic educational institution that has an important role in shaping the character and personality of the young generation. In this context, the development of a child-friendly gymnasium with an Islamic and contemporary architectural approach becomes relevant. Sukoharjo, as a potential location, provides an opportunity to dig into the concept. The purpose of this plan is to design a son-specific gymnasium by implementing a child-friendly system in it. The concept of this design is through the approach of Islamic architecture and contemporary architecture. Approach is chosen as a means of providing solutions to the problems that exist in the present age. Like the sick building syndrome problem, it is expected that the chosen approach can be a solution to the problem. This phase of planning starts with the process of data collection that is carried out with the collection of related information, then conduct a chronological study and a comparative study to draw physical and non-physical data in the district of sukoharjo as the location of the design. The next step is the design of the concept of a child-friendly gymnasium, ranging from the mass concept, spatial planning, site concept, structure concept, utility, to the architectural concept. The design resulted in a child-friendly gymnasium that adopted the Islamic architectural approach as a characteristic of an Islamic Educational Institution and was combined with contemporary architecture in contrast to the surroundings. It's something new that makes the attraction of this campsite unique.
