Abstract

This research aims to: (1) to find out the implementation of using Mentimeter as a formative assessment instrument for observation report text for class X high school students; (2) to find out the relationship between students' and teachers' perceptions of the effectiveness of using Mentimeter as a formative assessment instrument for class X high school observation report text. The method used is mixed method, namely quantitative and qualitative methods. This research strategy uses sequential explanatory design research design (sequentiaal explanatory design). The subjects in this study were students of class X4 of SMA Muhammadiyah PK Kottabarat Surakarta. While the objects in this study include the implications, perceptions and effectiveness of students and teachers regarding the utilization of Mentimeter media as a formative assessment instrument on the teaching material of observation report text. Questionnaire and interview information data related to students' and teachers' perceptions and effectiveness of Mentimeter media. The data sources were interview results (Indonesian language teachers of SMA Muhammadiyah PK Kottabarat) and questionnaire instruments (perceptions and effectiveness of students and teachers). Data collection techniques Likert scale classification. Data validity source triangulation. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics of non-test instruments. The results of the research on the implementation of the use of Mentimeter as a formative assessment were carried out through: delivery of teaching materials for the text of the observation report for three meetings; explanation of the description of Mentimeter media; delivery of instructions for formative assessment; application of formative assessment through Mentimeter media. Students' perceptions through open-ended questions show Mentimeter as a learning media that is very fun and easy to use. In addition, the answers can be seen in real-time can increase motivation to be more increased. The percentage results of the teacher's assessment of the media resulted in 80%, 80%, 100%, 90%, 90%; this shows, the teacher's perception that Mentimeter media is very suitable and light to be used by grade X students. Students' perceptions of the questions contained in the formative assessment on Mentimeter are quite easy, but there are some words that indicate that students do not understand, such as the words bias and inference. Teacher perceptions related to the questions contained in the formative assessment showed a percentage of 100%, 90%, 100%, 80%, 100% which resulted in that, the questions were in accordance with the learning objectives. The effectiveness of Mentimeter media as a formative assessment based on the results of the analysis of student responses shows 73.52 which indicates that the media is effective to use.
