Abstract
Deaf individuals have limitations in hearing and receiving information verbally, making vision one of their primary senses for gathering information. The needs of deaf individuals regarding public facilities are not yet ideal in terms of comfort and safety, which should be taken into account in the provision of public facilities, including supportive services alongside special educational institutions such as schools for the deaf (SLB-B). The provision of creative training facilities aims to empower deaf individuals as the primary users in this design, enhance their potential, and accommodate activities for the deaf community. This design also aims to create a therapy center as well as a comfortable and welcoming learning environment, and to establish public spaces that enhance societal awareness of deaf individuals. The design method begins with a literature review to gather information related to applicable regulations, followed by data collection through observation, documentation, and case studies. The data is then analyzed to obtain a physical and non-physical understanding of the design location. The final step is to develop a design concept as the foundation for the project. The result of the design is the Deaf Culture Center, which serves as a training and therapy center that accommodates activities in creative training across various artistic fields, addressing both the artistic needs of the deaf and those of the participants, ensuring they feel comfortable and safe during activities. In addition to the creative training facilities, this building also provides therapy examination services, including hearing loss assessments, various deaf therapies consisting of six main therapies (AVT, Lip Reading, Integrated, Oral (formal and Quran), Manual) and two supporting therapies (Aviary Garden and Water Curtain Garden), as well as sign language training facilities (BISINDO, SIBI, and ISL). The design is developed using the Deaf Space Design Guide (DSDG) concept, which is expected to optimally support deaf individuals, providing them with a built environment of higher quality.
