Abstract

An increase in population and economic growth in an area has the potential to increase the number of vehicles used to support these activities. The government continues to prioritize infrastructure development, especially toll roads, to create an extensive freeway network to increase productivity through structural transformation. One of the infrastructure projects currently being carried out is the Solo - YIA Kulon Progo Toll Road which crosses two provinces, Central Java and Yogyakarta. To support toll road performance and reduce the number of accidents, public facilities are needed in the form of rest areas or service rest areas that comply with policy standards and are equipped with facilities. Kulon Progo Regency was chosen as the location for designing the rest area because it is one of the rest area points that is still temporary. However, the existence of a rest area also has a negative impact on local residents through whom the toll road passes, such as a decline in the economy and a decrease in visitors to local tourism which makes the main arterial route quiet. So to overcome this problem, it is necessary to combine the two different functions between rest areas and the development of educational tourism in the surrounding environment which has been abandoned due to the influence of globalization around Kulon Progo Regency such as cultural heritage, cultural parks, culinary delights with local specialties such as growol, geblek, srontol made from cassava as well as various tempeh chips to make them better known to many tourists.
