Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of social media use and self esteem with fomo. The research method used is using a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The population in this study were students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta using purposive, namely with the criteria of UMS students aged 18-24 years, social media users. The sample to be used in this study amounted to 130 students. This study uses a scale of intensity of social media use, self esteem and fear of missing out (fomo). The data analysis used is multiple linear regression analysis test. The hypothesis in this study is that there is a relationship between the intensity of social media use and self esteem with fomo. The results of data analysis show that there is a significant relationship between the intensity of social media use and self esteem with Fomo, as evidenced by the results of R = 0.507 and the value of Sig. 0,000 < 0,05. The results of the minor hypothesis test 1 show that there is a significant positive relationship between the intensity of social media use and fomo with the results of r = 0.384 and Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 <0.05. The results of the minor hypothesis 2 test show a negative relationship between self esteem and fomo with the results of r = -0.429 and a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 <0.05. This proves that the major and minor hypotheses in this study are accepted. The effective contribution in this study was 25.7% with the intensity of social media use of 10.9% and self esteem of 14.8% and the remaining 74.3% was influenced by other factors.
