Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of cutting speed parameters in the ST37 steel cutting process using the Gas Cutting method on surface roughness and surface topography. The cutting speed variation parameters used are 250 mm/min, 300 mm/min, and 350 mm/min. The research process that will be carried out includes several tests, namely surface roughness testing and surface topography testing. Surface roughness testing was carried out using a Mitutoyo SJ-210 Surface Roughness Tester and surface topography using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The surface roughness test results show that a variation of 250 mm/min produces the smallest roughness value, followed by other variations. The surface topography results show that the 250 mm/min variation has a more even topographic color compared to the 350 mm/min variation which has a more significant color difference.
