Abstract
Background: Dengue hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease caused by the dengue virus with the vector Aedes aegypti mosquito. Efforts to control dengue fever are by using natural larvicides which environmentally friendly. Chemical compounds in plants such as alkaloids, tinocrisposide, picroretoside glycosides, and tannins contained in brotowali leaves, as well as saponins, flavonoids, and essential oils in citronella leaves are toxic to larvae. Aim: This research aims to determine the killing power and compare the effectiveness of squeeze of brotowali (Tinospora crispa) leave with citronella (Cymbopogon nardus (L.) Rendle) leaves as a natural larvicide. Methods: This research was laboratory experiment with a post test only controlled group design method. There are 600 instar III larvae were divided into 6 groups and each container contained 25 larvae (aquadest, abate, brotowali 5% and 10%, citronella 5% and 10%), 4 times repetitions and observed every 6 hours for 24 hours. Results: The results of the larvicide test showed that 5% squeeze brotowali leave killed 76% of the larvae, 10% brotowali killed 83% of the larvae, 5% squeeze citronella leave killed 92% of the larvae, and 10% citronella killed 100% of the larvae. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test obtained a p value <0.05, which means there is a significant difference in the effect of larvicide between groups. Conclusion: 10% squeeze citronella leave is the most effective concentration in killing larvae.
