Abstract
The menstrual cycle is the time when the menstrual period repeats every month, calculated from the start of menstruation until the next menstrual period arrives. One factor that influences the regularity of the menstrual cycle is nutritional status. Excessive nutritional status increases the production of the hormone estrogen so that it can lengthen the menstrual cycle, and insufficient nutritional status will cause the menstrual cycle to be short. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between nutritional status and the menstrual cycle in young women at the Surakarta National Pharmacy Vocational School. This study applied an analytical observational research design with a cross sectional approach. The research population was female students of the Surakarta National Pharmacy Vocational School class XI with an age range of 14 to 17 years with a total of 108 female students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sample calculation used the ordinal-nominal correlative analytical formula of 65 female students with a sampling technique using the simple random sampling method. Data on menstrual cycle regularity were obtained using a questionnaire containing the length of menstruation and the length of the menstrual cycle during the last 3 months. Then nutritional status data was obtained from height and weight measurements which were processed using WHO Anthro plus software and categorized based on the indicators of Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2020 with the BMI/U index for children aged 5 to 18 years, then analyzed using the Chi Square test with the help of SPSS version 25. The research results showed that 3,08% of female students had an underweight nutritional status,12,31% overweight, and 43,08% respondents had abnormal menstruasl cycle. Based on the result from Chi Square test, p value = 0,230. There was no correlation between nutritional status and the menstrual cycle in young women at the National Vocational High School of Pharmacy Surakarta.
