Abstract
Breakfast is important for children because blood sugar levels will decrease about two hours after the child wakes up. One of the impacts of not having breakfast is that your concentration decreases. An initial study conducted by researchers at SDN Gumpang 1 revealed that out of 10 students in classes V and VI, 4 students skipped breakfast while 6 students had breakfast. Based on interviews with class teachers, when learning takes place, especially in the morning, there are students who do not focus on learning, such as talking to friends alone, do not pay attention to the teacher, are weak and sleepy during lessons, such as putting their heads on the table. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between breakfast and learning concentration in children. This type of research is quantitative, with a cross sectional research design. The population is 103 students in grades V and VI. This research uses a Probability Sampling technique, namely Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling with a sample size of 82 respondents. The instruments in the research used a breakfast questionnaire and the Digit Symbol Substitution Test (DSST). 54 students (65.9%) who had breakfast had good concentration, 46 people (56.1%) and 8 people (9.8%) had poor concentration. There were 28 students (34.1%) who did not eat breakfast, 2 people (2.4%) had good concentration and 26 people (31.7%) had poor concentration. The results of the Spearman Rho test calculations obtained a sig value of 0.01 - 0.05. There is a significant relationship between breakfast and the learning concentration of school-age children with a strong correlation strength of 0.538. Having breakfast before starting activities will have a good impact on children's learning concentration levels.
