Abstract
Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a disease caused by the Dengue virus which is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito as the main vector. To break the life cycle of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the larvicide method can be used. Water guava leaves contain phenols (flavonoids), tannins, alkaloids, saponins and polyphenols, which can potentially be used as natural larvicides. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of ethanol extract of water guava leaves (Syzygium aqueum) with TWEEN and PEG diluents on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae, as well as a comparison of the effectiveness of the two. This research is an experimental laboratory type using a posttest only control group design by observing the control group and the treatment group. There were 3 control groups consisting of 1 positive control group (abate) and 2 negative control groups (TWEEN and PEG diluent). There were 4 treatment groups, namely TWEEN and PEG diluents which were added with water guava leaf ethanol extract with concentrations of 1.5% or 2%. The Aedes aegypti larva samples used were instars III-IV. Recording of Aedes aegypti larval mortality for the 7 groups was carried out every 6 hours for 24 hours. Larval mortality data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test because it was not normally distributed and not homogeneous. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference (sig.p < 0.005), so it was continued with the Past-Hoc Mann Whitney test to see more specific differences (effectiveness). Based on the Past-Hoc Mann Whitney test, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of water guava leaves (Syzygium aqueum) with TWEEN and PEG diluents is effective on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae (sig.p < 0.005), with the same level of effectiveness (sig.p> 0.005). Ethanol extract of water guava leaves (Syzygium aqueum) with TWEEN and PEG diluents are equally effective against Aedes aegypti larvae mortality.
