Abstract
Schools are institutions for students to receive education and teaching under the supervision of teachers or educators. The principal is the educational leader in the school who has an important role for teachers and students. The principal as a leader in the school must be able to overcome, understand and correct all problems or deficiencies that exist in the school. The principal's ability to manage, organize or run each component in the school influences the success or failure of education and learning at school. This research is field research with qualitative research methods and a phenomenological research approach. Data sources with research subjects are school principals, head of curriculum, head of student affairs, and PBB extracurricular supervisor as well as additional data from journals and documents. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observation and documentation which were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The process of checking data through triangulation techniques and sources. The purpose of the research is to describe the leadership of the principal at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Gondangrejo, Karanganyar district and to describe the supporting and inhibiting factors for the leadership of the principal at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Gondangrejo, Karanganyar district. The research results show that the leadership of the principal at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Gondangrejo, Karanganyar Regency, manages various areas in the school including: 1). in the field of curriculum, namely increasing collaboration with the business world and the industrial world and synchronizing the curriculum with the business world and the industrial world. 2). in the field of student affairs, namely the selection of students carried out in one day, improving discipline, as well as religious cultural activities in schools. 3). in the field of facilities and infrastructure, namely repairing, updating and replacing school infrastructure. 4). in the field of teacher staff, namely always working together in every school activity, and carrying out good communication between teachers. 5). in the field of public relations, namely always carrying out activities at school. There are two factors, namely: the supporting factor is the availability of good infrastructure and facilities at the school. Meanwhile, the second factor, namely the inhibiting factor, is that teachers who are old or old have difficulty using or operating modern technological devices, even though training is always held for technology science and students are still carried away by the atmosphere during the pandemic and online learning, so it takes time slowly to restore enthusiasm. learn students in learning.
