Abstract

Research on the grammatical cohesion of references in Ahmad Tohari's short stories discusses forms of reference and implements them into Indonesian language learning outcomes. However, there is something special that makes this research special, namely the Functional Systemic Linguistics approach which is used as a research approach in the field of linguistics. Functional Systemic Linguistic Theory can be used to achieve the goal of linguistic analysis of lingual units that have meaning. This research has the aims of (1) Exposing the forms of grammatical cohesion in the form of references found in Ahmad Tohari's short stories. (2) Explain the relevance of forms of grammatical cohesion references to learning outcomes in schools. This research is a type of descriptive qualitative research, because it is appropriate to the research subject which will produce qualitative data. The research data is in the form of words, sentences and paragraphs in Ahmad Tohari's short stories which contain reference grammatical cohesion and the data is classified based on the types of reference markers. The data source for this research is short stories written by Ahmad Tohari which are available on the subagiyowaluyo.com page. Research on the grammatical cohesion of references in Ahmad Tohari's short stories uses Nonprobality Sampling as a research sampling technique. The sampling technique in this research used a purposive sampling technique. The data collection techniques used in this research are library techniques and note-taking techniques. The data validity techniques used in this research are observation, theory triangulation, and reference adequacy. The data analysis techniques in this research are matching, adding, and marking. The results of this research are that Ahmad Tohari's short stories contain a number of grammatical cohesion references. Based on the ten short story titles by Ahmad Tohari, there are 260 grammatical cohesion reference data in Ahmad Tohari's short stories, including: 170 persona reference data, 58 demonstrative reference data, and 32 comparative reference data. The results of research on grammatical cohesion references can be used as learning Indonesian which refers to writing narrative texts in the form of short stories.
