Abstract
The aim of this research is to describe the forms of spelling errors in the explanatory texts of class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Polanharjo. Able to describe the relevance of accurate use of Indonesian spelling in learning explanatory texts in high school. The method used in this research is descriptive method. By using this method, research can describe situations or events through text by describing observable variables and entities related to the problem. Based on the results of research that has been carried out, this research found 54 data on spelling errors in the explanatory text of class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Polanharjo. From the research results, spelling errors were found in the form of letter usage, word writing, and punctuation usage. In spelling errors in the form of letter usage, errors are often found in the use of capital letters. In writing words, researchers found spelling errors in the use of prepositions, especially the preposition "di" and errors in writing numbers and numbers. Then the researchers found errors in the use of punctuation marks in commas (,), colons (:), hyphens (-), dashes (—), quotation marks (“…”), and single quotation marks ('... '). From the results of research on spelling errors, the researcher then applies it to Indonesian language learning in high school, remembering that Indonesian language learning aims to understand various forms of spelling in learning inside and outside the classroom.
