Abstract

This research aims to determine the chemical composition, the effect of the number of inlets on the microstructure, and the hardness of gray cast iron pendulum weighing products. In this research the number of variations in inlets in the casting process is 1 inlet, 2 inlets and 3 inlets. Chemical composition testing was carried out to determine the chemical elements contained in gray cast iron, chemical composition testing using a spectrometer test equipment with the ASTM E415 testing standard. Metallurgical testing was carried out to determine the microstructure and chemical composition of the phases in gray cast iron, testing using the SEM-EDS (Scanning Electron Microscope-Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) method with the ASTM E986 testing standard. And hardness testing is carried out to determine the resistance of a material to plastic deformation on the surface of the material, hardness testing uses the Rockwell method with ASTM E18 testing standards. The test results show that casting using 2 inlets causes the distribution of graphite to be even, thereby increasing the hardness of the material. The highest average hardness value for gray cast iron material is 90,6 HRB in castings with 2 inlets. Meanwhile, the lowest average hardness value was 84.9 HRB for 1 inlet casting
