Abstract

Character education is highly important in Indonesia, considering the diverse and complex social and cultural conditions. Character education is also one of the efforts to cultivate a generation with strong, high-quality, and morally upright characters. Nevertheless, character education in Indonesia still faces several challenges, including a lack of consistency and coordination in its implementation. Additionally, character education in Indonesia is confronted with the widespread influence of social media, which further complicates the role of parents in shaping their children's characters, and the limited involvement of parents in character development. The objectives of this research are as follows: (1) To describe how the cultivation of character education values is carried out in Pondok Pesantren Modern Zam Zam Muhammadiyah Cilongok, Banyumas Regency. (2) To describe the faktors that support and hinder the implementation of these character education values. This study is a field research using a phenomenological approach. The author employed several data collection techniques, including interviews, observations, and documentation, followed by data analysis through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the conducted research, it can be concluded that the cultivation of character education values in Pondok Pesantren Modern Zam Zam Muhammadiyah Cilongok, Banyumas Regency, is carried out through habituation methods among the students, setting examples, and using the 'Ibrah & Mau'idah' method. The supporting faktors can be divided into two categories: internal faktors, including adequate facilities in the Islamic boarding school, peer influence, the role of religious teachers (ustadz), students' activities, and the role of students' parents. External faktors include the involvement of the surrounding community near the Islamic boarding school. On the other hand, internal hindering faktors include the busy schedules of religious teachers outside of the school, students' difficulty in socializing, adapting, family issues, and peer influence. External hindering faktors include differences in behavior when outside the Islamic boarding school environment.
