Abstract

Gray cast iron has the disadvantage that it corrodes easily. Therefore, this research aims to determine the layer thickness and compare the corrosion rate between gray cast iron material and gray cast iron that has been coated with nickel and brass using the electroplating method. Nickel and brass plating was chosen because it is corrosion resistant and provides a good decorative impression. The method used is to determine the layer thickness and compare the corrosion rate value between RAW gray cast iron material with gray cast iron that has been coated with nickel for 60 minutes and brass for 45 seconds. The results obtained were that the thickness of the nickel layer was 11,404 μm and brass was 8,830 μm and the corrosion rate value for the raw material was 0.06909 mmpy and that which had been coated with nickel was 60 minutes and brass was 45 seconds, 0.0385 mmpy.
