Abstract
Gunungkidul has a long coastline, the location of the beach facing South Java causes potential danger. One of the dangers that often arises is rip currents, which are strong currents that can drag people out to sea. This study aims to utilize drones to detect the area of rip currents on Indrayanti Beach by pouring fluorescent dye and to analyze the characteristics of the hacking currents on Indrayanti Beach using drones. The method used in this research is interpretation of Google Earth images followed by pouring fluorescent dye (uranine). Uranine pouring is monitored via drone so that the location and characteristics of the rip current can be known. The results of the analysis show that the rip currents at Indrayanti Beach tend to persist which are influenced by the basic morphology with the Boundary-controlled type due to the presence of a barrier or cliff on the west side which is directly adjacent to Somadeng Beach. The dimensions of the rip current are approximately 188 m long with a width of 25 m. The rip current in Indrayanti Beach has a lowest speed of 0.2 m/s, a highest speed of 0.392 m/s and an average speed of 0.302 m/s.
