Abstract

Reading is one aspect of language skills that is active receptive. By reading one can broaden one's horizons, can add and form a better attitude to life, as entertainment, and increase knowledge. Reading activity is a literacy activity that plays a very important role in human life which can provide insight and make the human mindset wider. However, visiting the library has not become an inherent culture or habit among Indonesian people, including among young people. One of the things that makes young people not interested in coming to the library is because of the image of the library which is only used as a place to read books and tends to be boring. The trend of reading among young people has its own character and they prefer activities that are more recreational in nature. This plan aims to improve reading habits by providing space for young people to carry out activities that suit their character and hobbies. The approach with the concept of Youth Space is an appropriate consideration because it can determine the space needed in the library based on the behavior and character of young children to meet their basic needs. The planning of the library building is combined with educational recreational activities that are physical in nature, arts, as well as a flexible service system so that library visitors, especially young people, are more comfortable doing activities in the library. Based on these considerations, the library requires the application of spatial planning with an open space concept, building facades with a modern-industrial style, interior aesthetics with a combination of bright colors and industrial elements that suit the character of young people, so that the library building has its own charm supported by its function. optimal building.
