Abstract
Introduction: Fast food is a ready-to-eat food that contains high energy. The habit of excessive consumption of fast food results in the accumulation of fat in the body so that it affects nutritional status. Overweight of adolescents in SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta has a percentage of 30% and 3.33% obesity, one of the factors causing overnutrition including fast food consumption. Objective: Knowing the relationship between fast food consumption and the incidence of overweight in adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. Methods: This study is observational, using a cross sectional approach with a population of 218 adolescents in classes VII and VIII for sample calculation using the 1997 Lemeshow formula with simple random sampling technique according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria obtained a sample of 66. Data collection on fast food consumption using the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire form for the last 1 month and nutritional status data obtained from measuring height (cm) using a microtoise and weight (kg) using a digital step scale then calculated using IMT / U in analyzing data using the help of the SPSS version 2.0 program to conduct a correlation test on fast food consumption and nutritional status using the Chi-Square test. Results: A total of 56.06% of respondents consumed fast food in the high category with the highest energy content type of fast food, namely instant noodles at 194.80kcal. There are 83.72% of respondents with more nutritional status consuming fast food in the high category. The results of the relationship analysis with the Chi Square test obtained a value (p = 0.000). Conclusion: There is a relationship between fast food consumption and the incidence of overweight in adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta. It is suggested to the school to be able to make promotive and preventive efforts in collaboration with the Health Office.
