Abstract
The Covid-19 pandemic forces all individuals to limit direct physical or social contact. The use of the internet is an important aspect in today's life, especially for students as a medium in the learning process. However, excessive use for unproductive things can cause students to become addicted to the internet. From the interview results, there are several factors that influence internet use, including self-esteem, eliminating feelings of loneliness and low self-control to limit internet use. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem, loneliness, self-control and internet addiction in college students during the Covid-19 pandemic and how each variable relates to internet addiction. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational model. The sampling technique used was cluster random sampling with the number of participants being 264 students majoring in mechanical engineering (24%), management (30%), and communication science (46%) Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The approach in this research is quantitative with a correlational model. The data analysis techniques used are regression analysis and partial correlation. The results of data analysis found that there was a relationship between self-esteem, loneliness and self-control and internet addiction. Self-esteem, loneliness and self-control make an effective contribution of 47.1% to internet addiction. This study also found a negative relationship between self-esteem and self-control with internet addiction, which respectively contributed effectively 10% and 44.4%. Loneliness has a positive relationship with internet addiction which has an effective contribution of 45.7%. Meanwhile, the rest is the influence of other variables on internet addiction which are not discussed in this research.
