Abstract

The Surakarta City Government has the goal of turning Surakarta City into a Creative City. This is supported by data which states that the number of creative industries in Surakarta City was 497 units in 2019. The growth of the creative industry is showing quite good development, especially since the creative economy is getting more attention in the current government era, with the establishment of BEKRAF, a government agency that manages creative industries in Indonesia. However, the forum for creative industry players is not well developed in Surakarta City. Research conducted by non-governmental research institutions in collaboration with the Surakarta City Tourism Office which conducted research on ± 170 creative spaces in Surakarta City stated that as many as 48% of creative spaces in Surakarta City were classified as C, which means that their existence has not been optimally utilized and still needs to be done some improvements to make it worthy of being a creative space. There are several modern music communities in the city of Surakarta, starting from the underground collective scene, several campus music UKM communities in the city of Surakarta and regular collective communities of café bands which are intended to fill events at the café. This independent community does not yet have a place to develop their creativity in Surakarta City which incidentally has the largest loud music festival in Central Java Province, namely Rock in Solo. The scope of the modern music ecosystem in Surakarta City is in the records store, clothing business, venue music, and music studios which receive less attention, due only to the collective community and the lack of support from the Surakarta City Government. And Lokananta's recording studio class is also not well maintained because it is considered undeveloped and only used as a historical building which is sufficient to protect its contents and does not preserve the function of Lokananta Records itself. Therefore the design of Surakarta Creative Space is expected to make a significant contribution to the ecosystem of the modern music community, providing space for the modern music community as a center for creative and innovative industries, while at the same time accommodating the need for Creative Space to accommodate the modern music community in Surakarta City to create a productive ecosystem.
