Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of optimization of character education in schools and the reality that there are many students who are only cognitively smart but have low character, lack discipline, responsibility and so on. One effort to improve this is the development of the character of discipline and responsibility for students through an educational institution, namely SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of the tahfiẓ Al-Quran program in shaping the character of discipline and responsibility of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta and to find out the supporting factors and inhibiting factors for the implementation of the tahfiẓ Al-Quran program in forming the disciplinary character and responsibilities of students at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. The type of research used is field research. In this study using a phenomenological approach. Collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data validity technique is using source triangulation. And the data analysis technique uses the stages of analysis according to Miles & Hubermen's theory, namely data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results obtained that the implementation of the Al-Qur'an tahfiẓ program in forming the character of discipline and responsibility is manifested by 2 indicators, namely using time to read and memorize the Al-Qur'an and comply with rules and regulations. Then in forming the character of responsibility it is manifested by 2 indicators, namely submitting memorization in accordance with the instructions and provisions and being aware and independent to always maintain memorization. Supporting factors include awareness in students who are familiar with memorizing the Qur'an, the family environment, namely a good family background, especially parents, and the school environment, especially teachers and close friends. Inhibiting factors include that some of the students still have bad habits, parenting and lack of attention from the family, as well as the school environment, especially friends who have bad behavior.
