Abstract

Multicultural education is education that is the same for all students without excluding gender, social class, ethnicity, race, or other cultural characteristics in learning at school. So multicultural education should be internalized in the curriculum, teaching strategies, and every interaction carried out by all elements in education. The purpose of this research is to understand the material and multicultural learning strategies at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta. This study uses a qualitative research paradigm. When viewed from the implementation, this research includes field research (Field Research). The research approach used is a phenomenological approach. The research object was SMP Muhammadiyah Surakarta and the research subjects were students, teachers and school principals. To obtain the data needed in the research, several methods were used including the interview method. Observation and documentation. In this study, the authors used source triangulation, technical triangulation and time triangulation. Data analysis was carried out in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, data verification. There are several materials that contain multicultural values, namely honesty, trustworthiness, respect and obedience to parents and teachers, the struggle of the Prophet Muhammad SAW in the Mecca period in upholding the message of Allah SWT, the struggle of the Prophet Muhammad in the Medina period, Biography of the Caliph Abu Bakar Ash-Shiddiq, Q.S. Adh-Dhuha and related hadiths about social piety, belief in the books of Allah SWT, belief in the Messenger, tolerance, respect and empathy, the history of the progress of civilization during the Abbasid Daula, Q.S. Adh-Dhuha and related hadiths about social piety, Q.S. Abasa and related hadiths regarding respecting others. Provisions regarding zakat, infaq, shadaqah, endowments, grants and gifts as well as simple living in accordance with Islamic religious teachings and provisions for the implementation of qurban. The strategy used by the teacher in instilling multicultural values at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta is discussion, motivation, exemplary, stories, reward and punishment, questions from students, random and silent texts.
