Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is one of the chronic diseases that are currently a problem in Indonesia, so it requires serious treatment. Diabetes is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by an increase in blood sugar. High blood sugar levels can be managed by pharmacological and non-pharmacological means. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of progressive relaxation therapy on reducing blood sugar levels in people with diabetes mellitus. This type of research is quantitative using purposive sampling technique. The research method used is the quantitative method and uses a quasi-experimental pre-posttest research design with control group design. The sample in this study was 40 respondents, and then grouped into two groups, namely 20 control group respondents and 20 treatment group respondents with purposive sampling, respondents were selected according to the inclusion criteria as a sample. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test using SPSS software because the data distribution was not normal with a 95% confidence level or p <0.05 confidence interval. The results of this study were that there was no significant effect on changes in blood glucose levels in the control group of people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Kartasura Health Center with a value of p = 0.070 > α = 0.05. Whereas in the treatment group (experimental) it showed a value of p = 0.000 < α = 0.05, which means that there is a significant effect of progressive muscle relaxation therapy on changes in blood glucose levels in people with diabetes mellitus in the working area of the Kartasura Health Center.
