Abstract
Learning literature about the image of women at the high school level has not been effective with the use of old novels that are less attractive to students. This study aims to describe the structure and form of the image of the main female character contained in the novel Morning Gloria by Devi Eka. This study applies a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection was carried out by means of close reading and then analyzed by heuristic and hermeneutic reading techniques. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that: 1) the structure of the novel Morning Gloria by Devi Eka has the theme of a love story which is based on two differences making it difficult to unite, using a mixed plot. The characterizations in the novel consist of 12 characters who have their own character. The setting of the novel is set in cities in the Netherlands and Indonesia, the time setting is 2013, while the setting of the atmosphere in the novel is in the form of joy, panic, anxiety, sadness, annoyance, and anger. 2) The image of women in the novel Morning Gloria by Devi Eka, the main character Gloria Reytafa, is physically depicted as beautiful, typical of Indonesia, with black hair, black eyes, sharp nose, and defects. In the psychological aspect, Gloria is described as educated but unstable in love. In the social aspect, in the family, Gloria is very devoted to her parents, while in society, Gloria is able to make friends with Dutch friends but is closed to friends in Indonesia. 3) The research results can be implemented as literature teaching materials in class XII SMA with Basic Competency 3.4 and 4.4.
