Abstract
This study aims to describe the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in improving students' Qur'an reading skills at SMPN 01 Ngargoyoso. The lack of ability to read the Quran of students, as well as the inhibiting factors of the role of teachers in improving the ability to read the Quran are the basis of this study. The type of research used is field research (Field Research). The approach used in this study used a phenomenological approach. In obtaining valid data and supporting this study, the authors used interview, observation and documentation methods. The conclusion ofthis study is that the role of Islamic religious education teachers in improving students' Qur'an reading skills can be categorized as good. This can be seen from the role of the teacher as a motivator, the use of appropriate learning methods and by familiarizing students with reading the Qur'an before classroom learning is carried out. Then the use of these tools and media is in accordance with the abilities of the students, apart from facilitating student understanding. Finally, the inhibiting factors that influence in improving the ability to read the Quran for students of SMPN 1 Ngargoyoso are their respective interests and self-awareness, lack of support and motivation of parents at home, and lack of allocation of time needed to carry out BTA activities at school.
