Abstract
Strengthening the character of democracy and social care has been done well. The implementation of strengthening the character of democracy and social care is carried out jointly by members of the Karang Sepuh Manunggal Roso through various community activities that have been planned. Karang Sepuh Manunggal Roso is an association whose majority members consist of men and also young people, but the number is small. The Karang Sepuh Manunggal Roso Association is structured, and also has agreed-upon rules. The main task and function of the Karang Sepuh association is to help the troubles that occur in the community, especially among the Karang Sepuh members themselves. The focus of this research is to discuss strengthening the character of democracy and social care. The purpose of this research is to describe the strengthening of democratic character, to describe the strengthening of the socially caring character as well as the constraints and solutions of strengthening the democratic character and social care in Karang Sepuh Manunggal Roso activities. This research uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques in this study are interviews, observation and documentation. The validity of the data in this research research is triangulation. Data analysis was carried out by interactive analysis. This research has obtained data that Karang Sepuh Manunggal Roso has demonstrated voluntary contributions without coercion, democratic election of community leaders, deliberations for decision-making based on consensus, mutual cooperation (rewang), and also food distribution activities. Constraints to strengthening this character are the lack of participation of members, the lack of attention of members in the election of the chairperson, the inactivity of members in deliberation events, the lack of energy in helping (rewang) activities, the lack of cohesion among members in routine arisan activities, the lack of enthusiasm of the members during the night patrol activities, and the lack of activity of the members during the food distribution event. The solution taken is to involve members in various events, provide firmness in the form of fines, oblige members to attend deliberations, and divide the schedule of activities. The implementation of these activities needs to be carried out continuously, well organized in order to create quality characters in Karang Sepuh Manunggal Roso members.
