Abstract
The different backgrounds of students make their ability to read the Qur'an different. This encourages the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) to maximize the learning of the Qur'an through the Al-Islam and Kemuhammdiyahan Mentoring (AIK) program which is carried out outside the lecture class. In this scientific work, the author of this study aims to determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the AIK Mentoring program and the obstacles experienced in improving the ability to read the Qur'an in students of the Faculty of Islamic Religion UMS. This type of research is field research through a qualitative phenomenology approach. Collecting data using interviews and documentation which were analyzed by deductive method. The data sources of this research are the Institute for Islamic Boarding and Islamic and Muhammadiyah Development (LPPIK), the management of the Central Mentoring Coordinator and the Faculty of Islamic Religion UMS, mentees and mentors of AIK Mentoring, as well as relevant documents. Data collection techniques used interview, observation, and documentation techniques. The data validity technique uses technical triangulation and source triangulation. The data analysis technique uses Miles and Huberman's interactive model of data analysis in the form of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the implementation of AIK Mentoring was carried out every Saturday. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, mentoring was carried out face-to-face. After the pandemic, mentoring was carried out through online classes. Students are divided according to their ability to read the Qur'an, namely Takhasus, Tahsin, and Tahfidz, and grouped according to the results of the Al-Qur'an Reading Test (TBA) conducted by LPPIK. Looking at the final score of mentoring FAI students for the 2019/2020 school year, mentoring has a good influence on the ability to read the Qur'an of FAI students.
