Abstract
Character is a living gem that distinguishes humans from animals. Given the importance of character, educational institutions have a responsibility to instill it through the learning process. This study aims to describe the strategy for forming the religious character of students through religious activities at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari and to find out the supporting and inhibiting factors for the formation of students' religious character through religious activities at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari. This research uses qualitative research based on field research using a phenomenological approach with the object of research at SMA Negeri 1 Wonosari. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observation and documentation. The techniques used in data analysis are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion and verification. Source triangulation is used to explain the validity of the data. The results of this study indicate that the strategies used in the formation of students' religious character are exemplary, inculcating/enforcing discipline, habituation, creating a conducive atmosphere, as well as integration and internalization. The supporting and inhibiting factors are: a) supporting factors, namely the majority of school residents are Muslim, both teachers and students, teachers and students strongly support the formation of religious characters, adequate facilities and infrastructure, and a clean and comfortable environment, b) inhibiting factors, namely the replacement room for the mosque is inadequate and there are some students who need special treatment because they do not participate in religious activities.
