Abstract
This study aims to examine English extracurricular activities or English Club at SMA Al Islam 1 Surakarta, as well as to improve students' speaking skills through English club program at SMA Al Islam 1 Surakarta. The students targeted in this study are XI class students who take part in the English Club extracurricular activities. This extracurricular activity is a learning process to improve the English language skills of underprivileged students or master English in the classroom, through this activity the students who take part in these activities English club is expected to have sufficient skills in speaking English. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method using the Miles and Huberman technique, namely the flow analysis model. First, the researcher collected data using observation and interview methods. Second, researchers collect data and data sources by looking for primary data and secondary data. Third, the researcher looks for reduction data, exposure data, and conclusion data for the final research project. The result of this research shows that improving students’ speaking skills through English club program The strategies that they used start form the high skills students, middle skills students, and low skills students almost use the same strategies to improve their speaking skills in English Club Program, in the classroom, and in their daily life for the high skills students, they use strategies such as; learn by their self from the internet, study group with their friends who has more knowledge in English, and for the high skills students some of them have their own instructor to increase their English level, watch the movies, and listen to Hollywood song to increase their vocabularies, some of the high and middle skills students start to try speaking English in their daily activity when in the English Club.
