Abstract
Abstract This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the diameter of the endmill and bullnose chisels on the topography and the resulting surface roughness (Ra) on the flat surface of the 3 axis CNC milling router machining with mach 3 control system and aluminum material. The machining process is carried out by varying the diameter of the endmill and bullnose chisels, then the roughness value is tested using the arithmetic mean value (Ra) method using the MITUTOYO SJ 210 surface roughness tester, and the topography is seen through the SEM (scanning electron) test. microscopy). The results showed that the larger the diameter of the tool used when machining the 3 axis CNC milling router machine with aluminum material, the higher the surface roughness value, and the smaller the diameter of the tool used, the smaller the surface roughness value. The level of roughness with variations in the diameter of the endmill and bullnose chisels 4, 6, 8 mm, resulting in a roughness level of N6. The highest level of roughness is at 8 mm diameter of 0.837 µm and 0.843 µm. while the roughness level at 6 mm diameter is 0.738 µm and 0.742 µm. while the lowest level of roughness at 4 mm diameter was 0.534 µm and 0.616 µm. so the best level of fineness is to use a smaller diameter.
