Abstract

Educational orientation is part of the future orientation that discusses the field of education for children with mental retardation. This study aims to determine how parents plan education for children with mental retardation. This study involved 4 informants who have children with mental retardation, 2 male and 2 female informants with an age range of 39-52 years, the three informants have a history of high school education and 1 undergraduate informant. The three informants work as entrepreneurs and one informant is a housewife. This study uses a phenomenological approach with interviews and non-participant observation. Researchers used interview guides as a data collection tool and data analysis used coding to get keywords and present them in tabular form. In this study found 2 things that are important for parents to pay attention to in determining the educational orientation of children with mental retardation, namely plans and efforts. There are 2 plans, namely continuing education at the next level and placing children in orphanages. And the efforts implemented by parents include providing education for children in special schools, providing therapy according to the child's condition and accompanying children while studying at home
