Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a relationship between academic stress and self-efficacy with smoking behavior in students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. Respondents used as many as 104 students of the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta who smoke, which was obtained through purposive sampling. Data analysis was performed using statistical regression analysis techniques. The results of data analysis showed that the calculated F was 10,762, p = 0.000 (<0.05), with a correlation coefficient of 0.419, which means that there is a significant relationship between academic stress and self-efficacy and smoking behavior in students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, with an effective contribution (SE) by 17.6%. There is a significant positive relationship between academic stress and student smoking behavior with r 0.419, p = 0.000 <0.05. There is no relationship between self-efficacy and smoking behavior of students with r -0.119, p=0.23 >-0.05. SE together between academic stress and self-efficacy on smoking behavior are 15.3% and 2.26%, respectively.
