Abstract

Friction welding is a welding technique by utilizing the heat generated by friction. The surface of the two materials to be joined, one rotates while the other is stationary. so the heat generated by friction will continue to increase. With the compressive force and heat on both surfaces until the meeting of the two materials reaches the melting temperature (melting temperature), the welding process occurs. The material used in this study is AISI 1010 Steel, with variations of 800 rpm, 1000 rpm, 1200 rpm followed by a heat treatment (quenching) process. quenching) on physical and mechanical properties, including through tensile tests, hardness tests, and microstructures. It can be seen that the hardness value of the welding area obtained the highest average hardness value at a splicing speed of 1200 rpm of 189 VH, in the HAZ area of 206 VH, and in the raw material area of 285 VH. It can also be seen that the highest average stress value is found at a splicing speed of 1000 rpm, which is 669 N/mm2 and the highest average strain is at a splicing speed of 12%. And from the results of SEM and EDX microstructure photos, after the Friction Welding welding process the grain changes due to several factors, including material characteristics, temperature, and welding rate. In addition, the Heat Treatment Quenching process also greatly affects the type of phase in the welding section that has changed to martensite and there is oxygen content in each joint which indicates the presence of porosity that occurs resulting in decreased connection quality. So changes in frictional speed and heat treatment affect different welding results and affect different tensile test strengths, hardness values, and microstructures.
