Abstract
Language learning is one of the teacher's efforts to develop communication skills and the ability to study Islamic books or other books in Arabic. However, learning Arabic is not easy because Arabic is not the mother tongue or native language of the speaker. This of course can cause problems in learning Arabic. Problems always demand to be solved. Likewise with the problems of learning Arabic, not only by studying the problems that arise, but also by trying to find solutions to these problems. Based on the reasons that have been presented, this study will identify the problems of learning Arabic and describe the teacher's efforts to overcome the problems of learning Arabic in class VIII at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta in the 2021/2022 academic year. This type of research uses field research with a phenomenological approach. The sources of data in this study are primary data, namely school principals, Arabic language teachers and students, while secondary data in this study are school documents, document files, books, journals and encyclopedias. The data collection method used in this research is the method of observation, interview method and method of documentation. Analysis of the data in this study using the method of content analysis. Based on the data analysis carried out, it was found that the Arabic language learning process in class VIII at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta in the 2021/2022 academic year contained problems experienced by teachers and students. The problems faced are linguistic problems including sound system, vocabulary, sentence structure, and writing. In addition, teachers and students are also faced with non-linguistic problems in the form of time allocation, educators, students, learning media and an unsupportive environment.
