Abstract

The character development of love of reading and curiosity has not been carried out properly. There are still many educational institutions that are less than optimal in directing activities to children, especially in non-formal education institutions such as the Community Reading Park (TBM). Non-formal institutions only carry out activities culturally and heed the essence. This happened because the facilities and infrastructure were lacking, there was no evaluation and monitoring regarding the implementation of character education in Pangon Sinau Reading Park. The focus of this research discusses the development of the character of reading and curiosity in children. The purpose of this research is to describe the character development of a love of reading, to describe the development of the character of curiosity as well as the obstacles and solutions to the development of the character of liking to read and curiosity in children. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data collection techniques in this study are interviews, observation and documentation. The validity of the data in this research is triangulation. Data analysis was carried out with interactive analysis. This research obtained data that Pangon Sinau Dusun Jayan Reading Park has shown activities to read books and writing subjects, read novels and short stories, list books read, children ask questions related to learning that has not been understood, ask questions related to material that is not discussed and the existence of contemporary discussion. The obstacles to character development are lazy children to read, incomplete reading books, children not asking questions in activities. The solution provided motivates children to read, complete book updates, and ongoing discussions. The implementation of these activities needs to be carried out continuously, well organized in order to create quality characters in children.
